Garden of St Paul’s Hospital by van Gogh

In 1889 Van Gogh commuted himself to the asylum in St. Remy after snipping off part of his ear and offering it to local prostitute.

He drew a great deal of inspiration from the beautiful garden around the hospital.

His approach to nature became more abstract worth trees bent into cruel, sinister shapes and skies cultured purple and yellow, as in the Garden of St Paul’s Hospital.

Garden of St Paul’s Hospital is one of the most famous paintings by Vincent Van Gogh. He described this painting as ‘The Fall of the Leaves.
