Anne Stuart was queen of England from 1702 to 1714. Anne Stuart was born on February 6, 1665. She was the daughter of Anne Hyde and James, Duke of York, later James II, who served a brief tenure as king after his brother Charles II died. Queen Anne was one of Britain’s most remarkable monarchs. She was remembered for achieving the union of England and Scotland in 1707 and for bringing the War of the Spanish Succession to a conclusion.
Sir Godfrey Kneller was the leading portrait painter, associated with 1686 portraits. He read mathematics at Leyden University before turning to painting. Kneller studied in Amsterdam under Ferdinand Bol, one of Rembrandt’s pupils.
