The Order of Release 1746

It was painted by John Everett Millais. The painting was exhibited in 1853, that the wife shows her strength and the husband his dependency on her.

The painting depicts the release of a defeated Scottish Jacobite into the arms of his heroic wife with a child in her shawl. The dog jumps up in greeting to complete a triangular composition.
The painting proved so popular that the Royal Academy had to assign police guard to protect it from the crush of admirers.
