Picasso - Le rêve
1932 painting by the 50-year old Pablo Picasso portraying his 22-year old mistress, Marie-Thérèse Walter.It is in 51 1/4 x 38 1/8 in.It belongs to Picasso's period of distorted depictions, with its oversimplified outlines and contrasted colors resembling early Fauvism.
Walter’s face deliberately can be seen in two perspectives, in one of which she seems to perform fellatio, suggesting that the title of the painting may refer to Picasso’s rather than Walter’s dream.
It was been painted in one afternoon, on January 24, 1932. It belongs to Picasso's period of distorted depictions, with its oversimplified outlines and contrasted colors resembling early Fauvism.
The price was $48.4 million in 1997. Bought by Steve Wynn whose owns the casino empire 2001 hich estimated to $60 million. Le Rêve was purchased at cost only $7000 in 1941 by Victor and Sally Ganz from New York.
